George Mathers Jr. of Prince George draws in the family tree at the Mathers family reunion on Saturday, August 26, 1978. Surrounding Mathers, from left to right: Gloria Mathers of Seattle (seated), Leona Wards, Doug Wards, Grace (Mathers) MacKenzie and Vibe Smith of Squamish. More than 100 people spanning five generations gathered at the Mountain Park Campsite on Sumas Mountain for the event. The Mathers family began to emigrate from Scotland to Canada in 1910 until the last of the family arrived in 1928. Present at the reunion were senior members of the family including Mr. and Mrs. Tom Mathers of Mission and Evelyn Mathers of Port Moody. Also in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Edmondson of England. The Mathers were a well-known family in the Straiton area.
