Players from the Bradner Redshirts and the Abbotsford Buckeroos compete in a Fraser Valley Soccer League first division match on Sunday, October 8, 1978. In their first meeting, the newly formed Buckeroos team played very well, tying the game 2-2 against a powerful Redshirts crew. Dale Eckert of the Redshirts scored the opening goal in the first half, followed by a goal by Gordon Fadden of the Buckeroos midway through the first half. The Redshirts, however, tallied again with another goal from Eckert. Late in the second half, Patrick Anim lofted a short kick over the Redshirts keeper to tie the game. While play was clean in the first half, the final minutes of the match was characterized by scrappy play as the Redshirts became frustrated by their inability to score, despite dominating play.
