Context:
Accompanied by an unidentified pianist, an unidentified performer auditions for a children’s role in the play “Oliver,” which was to be presented by the Valley Musical Theatre Guild. There was an excellent turnout for children’s auditions for the Valley Musical Theatre Guild’s production of “Oliver” at Abbotsford Senior Secondary School Sunday, January 14, 1979. Approximately 80 children and parents were on hand to listen to Director Bill Green and musical director Dave MacTaggart go over the fine points of auditions. The hopefuls were told of the heavy rehearsal schedule they could face, asked if they could be available on selected Sundays, Mondays and/or Thursday, and advised “commitment” is required from young people and parents during the mounting of a musical. Girls who planned to try out for boys’ role were advised (and most seemed willing) that long hair would have to be cut. One girl pursued requirements for the lead role asking if a boy would be preferred for the part of Oliver. Image not published.
