Roger Hoogendoorn has time on his hand with an engraved wristwatch awarded to him as Carrier of the Year for The News and Central Valley News Advertiser. Roger Hoogendoorn’s record of customer satisfaction was a big factor in his selection as The News’ carrier of the year. The 14.5-year-old combined a solid level of sales and service with dependability, no complaints and remarks from his customers that he is extremely polite and friendly regular on his route. Roger, of 3363 Horn Street, had a route on the north side of South Fraser Way between Clearbrook and Abbotsford with 90 copies of The News to deliver on Wednesday and 150 copies of The Central Valley News Advertiser to distribute each Saturday. He was presented with an engraved watch to mark his level of achievement as one of the 151 young News carriers-salespersons all engaged in the early stages of small business careers. Roger, a grade 10 student at Community Baptists Christian Academy, started as a carrier in July 1977. Image not published.
