Mr. and Mrs. Peter Hamm pose for their 60th wedding anniversary photo to immortalize the moment. Mr. and Mrs. Peer Hamm of 31971 Sunrise Crescent, Clearbrook, marked their 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday, January 28, 1979, with an open house held in their honor at the home of their son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. Frank Epp, 209 Hamm Road. Married in Rosenwald, Siberia on January 28, 1919, the couple came to Canada in 1925 with their two oldest children. They settled in Saskatchewan and farmed there for 15 years before moving to British Columbia in 1940. They had resided in the area since 1943 where they farmed near the Abbotsford Airport before retiring in 1964. In 1969, when Mr. Hamm was in his 70’s, he had made his first trip back to Russia in 43 years for a reunion with four sisters and a brother. Mrs. Hamm was well known as an active worker with the Abbotsford branch of the Red Cross where she was a co-convener of the Red Cross work rooms for many years until retiring from this position in the mid-1970s. At the time of this photo, the couple had nine living children: Mrs. Ike (Mary) Janzen, Henry Hamm, Mrs. Frank (Anne) Epp and Jake Hamm, all of Abbotsford, Peter and Cornelius Hamm, both of Langley, Alfred Gamm of Kamloops, Hilda Hamm of Abbotsford and Mrs. Bob (Frieda) Pope of Richmond. All were present for Sunday’s celebrations with the exception of Alfred and Peter who were away on Holidays. Additionally, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Hamm had 33 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Special guests at the open house were Peter Ewert and Dick Friesen who were present at the wedding of 60 years ago. A message of congratulation was received from Mr. and Mrs. Martin Lemke of Langham, Saskatchewan, and Mr. Lemke also sent a poem that he had composed especially for the occasion. Out-of-town guests included Mr. and Mrs. Dave Bodrug of Calgary, Mrs. Kathy Hubner, and Gordon and Anne Hubner all of Seattle. Image not published.
